Free Leadership & Entrepreneurship Training

The BLACS Leadership Development Series is a free training initiative that helps emerging leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, and aspiring business owners develop practical skills, build meaningful relationships, strengthen their businesses, and contribute to their communities. The four training programs reflect the principles at the heart of the BLACS identity: Leadership, Association, Community, and Services.

1. Lead with Confidence

Foundations of Effective Leadership

This introductory training helps participants understand what effective leadership looks like and how to develop their own leadership style. The program focuses on building confidence, communicating effectively, making sound decisions, and leading with integrity and accountability.

What Participants Will Learn

  • Identify and develop a personal leadership style
  • Understand the difference between managing and leading
  • Strengthen communication and active listening skills
  • Build confidence and executive presence
  • Improve decision-making and problem-solving
  • Set goals and establish priorities
  • Navigate conflict and difficult conversations
  • Lead with integrity and accountability

Participant Outcome:

Participants complete a Personal Leadership Action Plan identifying three areas they want to strengthen.

2. Build Your Network, Build Your Opportunities

Strategic Relationships for Leaders and Entrepreneurs

Strong leadership rarely happens in isolation. Reflecting the Association component of BLACS, this training teaches participants how to build meaningful professional relationships that can create opportunities for mentorship, collaboration, business development, and career growth.

What Participants Will Learn

  • Build an effective professional network
  • Network with purpose and confidence
  • Create mutually beneficial business relationships
  • Identify mentors, advisors, and potential collaborators
  • Introduce yourself and communicate your value
  • Follow up and maintain professional relationships
  • Use networking events more effectively

Participant Outcome: 

Participants create a Personal Relationship Map identifying potential mentors, collaborators, clients, professional connections, and organizations to engage with.

3. From Idea to Impact

Entrepreneurial Leadership & Business Foundations

This training connects leadership development directly to entrepreneurship. It is designed for aspiring entrepreneurs, new business owners, and professionals considering business ownership, providing a practical introduction to turning an idea into a viable business opportunity.

What Participants Will Learn

  • Develop an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Turn an idea into a viable business concept
  • Identify the customer and the problem the business solves
  • Develop a clear value proposition
  • Set realistic business goals
  • Understand basic business planning and financial awareness
  • Build credibility as a new entrepreneur
  • Develop resilience and adapt to challenges
  • Recognize when to seek professional advice and mentorship

 

Participant Outcome:

Participants complete a One-Page Business Roadmap outlining their idea, customer, value proposition, goals, immediate priorities, and next steps.

4. Leadership That Strengthens Communities

Purpose, Service & Community Impact

Reflecting the Community Services component of BLACS, this program expands leadership beyond individual success. Participants explore how they can use their skills, businesses, networks, and influence to create positive, sustainable impact in their communities.

  • Identify needs and opportunities within a community
  • Lead through service
  • Build trust and credibility
  • Create inclusive and collaborative environments
  • Use business and professional skills to support others

Participant Outcome: 

Participants develop a Community Impact Plan identifying one practical way to use their leadership, expertise, business, or network to contribute to their community.
